Newnan Landscaping Supplies | Fall Landscaping Tips

Wow! What a difference a couple of months make when it comes to our landscaping. Practically everywhere you go, you see leaves covering the ground, including the struggling areas of grass that suffered from a sweltering hot summer.

Does the weather make a difference in how we take care of our landscaping?

Absolutely. Take a look at a few tips and guidelines you should keep in mind as you work on your landscaping this fall.

  1. Leaves on the ground may look pretty, but if they are left for too long, they can actually damage your grass by blocking the sunlight that your grass needs. Try to stay on top of those falling leaves—we know it’s a hard task when they just won’t stop coming down, but it’s important for the health of the grass.
  2. It’s fine to cut your grass in the cold weather, though you may find you won’t need to mow as often. Just make sure you don’t mow your grass while it’s wet, which may prove difficult if we keep getting this rain!
  3. Use mulch as insulation around your flower beds to help keep the soil temperature regulated.
  4. Don’t forget to take extra care with your landscaping equipment over the winter. Most likely you won’t need your lawn mower when we get into winter, so you can prepare it for storage by draining the oil and gas, removing the spark plug, and giving it a little clean-up.
  5. If you have any items like a picnic table or grill sitting on grass, it would be a good idea to move them soon. If they are left too long over the winter, the grass underneath could die, leaving you with some ugly spots in the yard come spring.

We hope these tips will be helpful to you as we get ready to go into the winter season. Do you have any other fall or winter landscaping tips that we missed? Stop by our Facebook page and share with our online community. We’d love to hear from you!
