Newnan Landscape Supply | Not all Bugs are Bad – Check out the Bugs we Love!

Did you know that there are some bugs that are beneficial to you and your garden? That’s right! Not every bug sighting should be met with a call to your local pest control company. There are certain bugs that are on your side, that work hard to keep your garden from becoming overrun with destructive insects – and they do all this just for room and board! Today, we will talk about a few of the different bugs that you should be happy to spot in your garden.

Lady bugs

We love lady bugs! Not only are they pretty to look at, but a lady bug adult can eat up to 100 aphids a day and lady bug larvae can eat up to 100 aphids an hour. As you probably know, aphids are tiny pests that will destroy your garden by sucking the sap out of your vegetation. Lady bugs also like to eat gardens mites, eggs of other pests and other small insects.

Dragonfly

Dragonflies are just really neat insects! They are so interesting to look at and have a lot of meaning attached to them. In fact, in Japan, dragonflies are symbols of happiness, courage and strength. Dragonflies will help keep mosquitoes, flies, aphids and ants out of your garden – so if you see a dragonfly, don’t fret!

Ground Beetle

The ground beetle is a little creepier to have around, but they are great garden workers. They are usually black or brown and about an inch long with long, skinny legs. They are nocturnal creatures, so you won’t see them around in the day very often. If you look hard enough, though, you may find them hiding – waiting until night time to come around so they can feed. They love eating slugs, root maggots, snails, cutworms and other insects that will destroy your garden.

These are just a few of our favorite beneficial bugs! Do you have a favorite bug that helps you out in the garden? Stop by our Facebook page and share with our online community. We would love to hear from you! In the meantime, if you see a dragonfly, lady bug or ground beetle, sit back and enjoy your free pest control!
