Mulch & More | Take Care of your Lawn This Fall!

It can be easy to forget about your lawn during the fall months. Once the temperature starts to drop, you’ll quickly notice that your grass stops growing. You may not need to mow your lawn every other weekend now, but there is still work to do if you want to keep your grass looking at its best and prepare it for next spring.

Continue Regular Care

Through the fall months, you should continue to mow and water your lawn as your normal. When fall is almost over, you will want to lower your mower’s blade to the lowest setting for the last 1-2 cuttings to let more sunlight get to the crown of the grass during the winter.

You also want to think about aerating your yard to let the water, fertilizer and oxygen reach the roots of the grass. You can rent an aerator from your local tool rental company or home improvement store.

Rake, Rake and Rake!

If you have trees in your yard, raking is going to be important. Leaves pile up quick and the longer you wait, the more difficult the job will be. Additionally, once they have stayed on the lawn for a while, they will mat together and suffocate your grass and allow fungal diseases to spread.

Fall is a great time to fertilize your yard because while the grass grows more slowly, the roots are still growing rapidly. Fertilizing now will help your roots grow strong for a healthier lawn come spring.
